Our philosophy: Our history: She retired after 15 years as Research Editor at Virginia Tech, but has continued to edit papers, and publish books, in those areas of science (Keys to Soil Taxonomy, Forecast and Solution). Pocahontas Press, however, has a broader mission, to facilitate the publication of the book that every individual has from his or her own life, whether it be reminiscences (Retrospect, Memory's Glass) or autobiography (Transylvanian Roots, The Long Trek to Solola) or even poetry (The Land Stacks Up, Aluminum Balloons). Many of the more than 100 books we've published have not been intended for public sale but are family records for a person's descendants (The Radford Letters, The Bells of the Valleys of Virginia). A number of our publications delve into history (An annual journal of history - The Smithfield Review, The Legend of Natural Tunnel, From Massacre to Matriarch) and biography (Fritz Müller - A Naturalist in Brazil, From Lions to Lincoln, The Quick Tests). And many more of our books don't fit into one category: Quarter-Acre of Heartache, Red Men in Red Square, Wilderness Road Odyssey, Don't Eat the Elephants. In our more than 20 years in business, we have helped tell such
true stories as: Inga and Yura's, and Michael and Matilda’s, escapes from the
Soviets and then from the Nazis, Dr. Quick's development of blood typing, Fanny
Scott's escape from Indian capture, Daniel French’s career as a sculptor,
Fritz
Muller’s life as a pioneer and naturalist in Brazil, and
Chief Big Eagle’s
struggle to preserve his tiny reservation. |
