Ophelia’s Legs
and Other Poems
by Theresa Courtney Gillespie, edited by
Anne Cheney
|
- Theresa’s untimely death at the age of 26 left a void in the
writing
community of Blacksburg and in the lives of those who called
her friend.
This book contains 39 of her poems, a complete collection
except for the
lost “Caliban.” The volume also celebrates her memory in the
poems
written for her, to her, about her, by the people she left
behind. And
it shares her life in an insightful biography that portrays
an
exceptional soul.

- Excerpt from “Motorcycle”, pages 98-9
We slink
into shadows of a highway,
I straddle the bike
behind him. It hums,
I do the purring.
Pinkies curled in belt loops,
my hands stalk
his belly, stealing
tastes of the lean flesh.
His hair, my next victim;
three curls venture
innocently from his helmet
to play on his neck.
I pounce.
